
Shaw Cross Open age players Joel Russell and Adam Moor will take on the famous Coal carrying championships this Easter Monday, all in aid of the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, helping raise money for a great cause.
The World Coal Carrying Championship is an annual, physically demanding event held on Easter Monday in Gawthorpe, Yorkshire, where participants 1,012 metres while carrying coal. Men carry 50kg and Women carry a 20kg bag of coal from the Royal Oak pub in Ossett and finish at Gawthorpe Maypole Green. Started in 1963 as a pub wager, it’s a renowned community event, now featuring races for all ages, with winners finishing in just over four minutes.
The cause: The RFL Benevolent Fund provides relief for people who have been injured whilst playing or training for Rugby Football League.
